Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician

Job Summary

Kairos Power LLC is seeking a highly motivated computer aided design (CAD) technician with expertise relevant to design of complex parts and assemblies. In this role, you will contribute to the engineering design and technology development programs for Kairos Power’s fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR). The candidate must have extensive CAD experience in relation with advanced manufacturing environments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and update CAD models for FHR systems, structures and components in support of/coordination with the engineering design team
  • Manage CAD file system for integration of complex parts and assemblies
  • Create engineering drawings, including dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Interface with manufacturing team for fabrication of parts and assemblies
  • Create equipment layouts for installation
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Years of experience: 5+ years of industry experience
  • Proficiency with CAD is required (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Effective communication skills for design efforts, including development of engineering drawings, is required
  • Proven record of successful completion of complex projects is required
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing information, is required
  • Experience interfacing smoothly with engineering teams is required
  • Experience with product data management (PDM) tools is preferred
  • Experience working in collaboration with machine shops is desirable
  • Broad experience across plant engineering topics is a plus

Job Summary

Kairos Power, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer with expertise relevant to thermal, structural and mechanical design and testing. In this role, you will contribute to the engineering design and technology development programs for the FHR. The candidate must have experience in solid mechanics, thermal and stress analysis, and computer aided design (CAD). Hands-on ability to work in machine shops is also desirable.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical design information, including functional requirements, for major FHR systems, structures and components, and document in design packages
  • Perform mechanical design tradeoff and optimization studies
  • Create and update CAD models for FHR systems, structures and components
  • Create engineering drawings, including dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Perform thermal and stress analysis using analytical and FEA analysis methods
  • Maintain knowledge of and assess compliance with applicable codes and standards

Qualifications

Job Summary

Kairos Power LLC is seeking an experienced, dedicated and well organized safety manager for its R-Lab facility located in Alameda, CA. In this role, you will manage safety and risk associated with several construction projects and laboratory activities, and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations. This position will require someone who is adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment and who is committed to working with our engineering teams and technicians in creating and maintaining an injury free workplace with the highest safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Train and support company personnel, contractors and subcontractors into the company’s safety conscious work environment
  • Develop and lead pre-job safety planning and follow up on execution
  • Frequently communicate with key project shareholders on safety practice implementation
  • Perform and oversee investigation of job site accidents. Possess strong problem solving skills to determine accident/incident root cause and follow up on corrective measures.

The candidate must have experience in chemistry and/or chemical engineering, with a preference for experience in electrochemistry, mass transport, and plant engineering topics relevant to molten salts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations, modeling and simulation for molten salt chemistry and mass transport to support reactor conceptual design
  • Design, develop and conduct experiments relevant to understanding molten salt electrochemical, mass transport (including tritium), and corrosion phenomenology
  • Develop procedures and training materials for salt handling and purification
  • Coordinate with salt supply chain vendors

Kairos Power LLC is seeking a highly motivated machine shop technician with expertise relevant to setup, operation and maintenance of machine shop equipment for advanced manufacturing. In this role, you will contribute to development and deployment of the company’s internal manufacturing capabilities. The candidate must have knowledge of infrastructure, setup, operation and maintenance requirements for machining equipment, expertise in advanced manufacturing techniques, and proven record of successful work in collaboration with engineering teams. Structural Design Lead

Design Lead Engineer:  Structural

Job Summary

Kairos Power, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Structural Design Lead with expertise relevant to design of high-temperature mechanical and process systems, including interfacing civil-structural systems. In this role, you will lead structural design for Kairos Power’s fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR), balance of plant, and test loops. The candidate must have experience with finite element modeling and its application to the design of structures and components subjected to complex thermal, mechanical and other (e.g. seismic) loads. The candidate must have experience or ability to rapidly learn design principles and simulation methods to predict and optimize performance and service life for metallic, ceramic composite, thermal insulation, and steel/concrete composite structures subjected to neutron and gamma radiation, corrosion, thermal creep and degradation, and complex thermal stress and mechanical loads.  The candidate must have experience with or ability to rapidly learn applicable codes and standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead Kairos Power’s structural design and analysis efforts for reactor, balance of plant, and test loop systems
  • Guide selection of modeling and simulation methods for structural design and lead code verification and validation efforts
  • Assume responsibility for identification and compliance with required codes and standards

Qualifications

  • Education: MS in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent
  • Years of experience:  4+ years in structural design and analysis
  • Knowledge and high competence in finite element modeling is required
  • Knowledge of design principles for high temperature metallic and ceramic composite structures subjected to high radiation and temperature environments is desirable
  • Knowledge of design principles for thermal and radiation shielding structures is a plus
  • Knowledge of interfacing requirements and design and analysis principles for civil structures, including steel/concrete composite structures, is a plus
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards is desirable
  • Proficiency with CAD modeling is desirable
  • Desirable skills include ability to model fluid-structure interaction, thermal stress and creep, and thermal and radiation degradation of metallic and ceramic composite materials; ability to design and optimize structures and components using metallic, ceramic composite and thermal insulation materials
