Hermes Low-Power Demonstration Reactor Construction Is Underway in Oak Ridge
In 2021, Kairos Power selected the East Tennessee Technology Park as the site for the Hermes demonstration reactor to support development of our fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (KP-FHR) technology. Kairos Power received a construction permit from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in December 2023 and commenced nuclear safety-related construction at the Hermes site in May 2025.
In the coming years, the company will invest over $100 million and create more than 55 high-paying jobs in East Tennessee to support Hermes' construction and operations.

The Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant
The Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant will build on lessons learned from the first Hermes reactor to demonstrate KP-FHR technology at a larger scale and supply clean electricity to the grid. The NRC issued construction permits for Hermes 2 in November 2024. The plant will be co-located with the Hermes demonstration reactor at Kairos Power's Oak Ridge campus.
